Discover How Greenwich Park Is Gardening for People and Planet Greenwich Park will take centre stage this October as the Friends of Greenwich Park welcome Matthew Pottage for their Annual Lecture 2026. Taking place at Mycenae House in Blackheath on Tuesday 6 October, the evening will explore how our parks, gardens and green spaces can adapt to the challenges of a changing climate. Gardening in a changing climate Matthew Pottage is Head of Horticulture & Landscape Strategy for The Royal Parks and brings considerable experience in horticulture and garden management to the evening. Previously Curator at the RHS's flagship garden at Wisley, Matthew is also a familiar voice to gardening enthusiasts through his regular appearances as a panellist on BBC Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time. His talk, "The Royal Parks: Gardening for People and Planet," will look at the challenges facing gardeners and those responsible for managing our green spaces as the climate changes. From increasingly unpredictable weather and extreme conditions to the need for more sustainable gardening practices, Matthew will explore how parks and horticultural spaces can continue to thrive while also reducing their impact on the environment. It's a particularly relevant topic for Greenwich and Blackheath, where our parks and green spaces form such an important part of local life. Event details: - Tuesday 6 October 2026 - Mycenae House, 90 Mycenae Road, SE3 7SE - Doors open: 7.30pm - Lecture begins: 8pm - Tickets: £12, including a glass of wine Tickets go on sale at 10am on Friday 31 July. The Annual Lecture is organised by the Friends of Greenwich Park, providing an opportunity for local residents and gardening enthusiasts to learn more about the work taking place across the Royal Parks and the future of our urban green spaces. Whether you're a keen gardener, a regular visitor to Greenwich Park or simply interested in sustainability and the environment, this promises to be an interesting evening.
